Maritime English as part of English for Specialized Purposes has its own particular characteristics and organization. At the core of the characteristics lies the word terminology. Terminology is the subject that deals with naming the concepts transferred into terms. Concepts can be described only by acquiring knowledge about their characteristics and concept naming involves matching these characteristics with the appropriate linguistic forms (terms). The relationship between knowledge and terminology has been pointed out by both information scientists and terminologists.
